Year End Round-Up

I've been pretty lousy at keeping up this blog this year. I've decided to do year end retrospective to let myself not feel so guilty about it. These are photos that I took this year, that I quite liked, but never got around to post. As there are more than a few, I put them on flickr. Click on the picture below to take a look. Happy New Year!

How The West Was Won.

I just got back from Las Vegas a week ago. Some friends wanted to meet up out there, and it gave me a good excuse to finally take the road trip I've always wanted to take. I have never really been out west. I've been to Vegas before, but I've never really seen anything out there. It is without a doubt the best trip I've ever taken. Once in Colorado, and then thru Utah, it is mile after mile of constant amazement and awe. I've seen pictures and movies of it before, obviously. But neither can adequately prepare you for the sheer scale of it all. It's graceful, majestic, humbling, breath taking, and many other fine adjectives. If you haven't done so already, take a drive out that way.

Looptopia....kinda lame.

So I checked out Looptopia last friday. The concept seemed cool, and I was pretty excited about it. So I got downtown around midnightish, and there was nothing really going on. Except a bunch of drunk college kids being fairly entertaining at millennium park. There may have been stuff going on, but the organization was such that I had no idea what it was. So, not too impressed. Got a cool picture of the bean out of it anyway...

Busy Day

It was a good day today. I went to the art institute this morning to see a new exhibit , The Earth As It Was. They had a lot of really good prints including some by Ansel Adams and William Clift.

After, I got some lunch at Melrose Diner and discovered in The Reader that there was a Sci-Fi film fest going on at The Music Box. Hopped over there, and saw three really good films, including "The Day the Earth Stood Still". I had never seen it before and really enjoyed it. One of the stars of the movie, Patricia Neal, was there. She was super funny in an old hollywood film star kinda way.

Anyway, the last two photos are from the music box, and the others are from around the town.

I feel fine.

Part of what I like about pictures, is that they are the records of things that will not always be around. Signs like that of the Rainbow Hotel's days are numbered. That's just the way it is. I hope I'll look at these pictures in twenty years and think fondly of that sign.

Foggy London Town...in Chicago.

It's been really mild in Chicago for the last week or so. It's gave us some really beautiful foggy days. As I haven't been out taking pictures in a while, I thought I'd take advantage of it.
